Today’s blog is very beneficial if you want to have naturally pink lips that are soft and plump. This blog will tell you reasons for getting dark lips and excellent tips & tricks to make them naturally beautiful.

Reason for getting dark lips

Why do you find that your lips aren’t as moisturized or pink as you’d want them to be? Do you know that the skin on your lips is one of the more delicate areas of skin on your body?

It is thinner than the rest of the face, making it more prone to environmental harm. In addition to this, lip skin does not have any oil glands that can work to re-moisturize itself.

And therefore allows environmental conditions to dry out the lips immediately. These factors can also give rise to lip discoloration. So let’s see those reasons that make lips dark and chapped.

1. Smoking

We all know that “Smoking is injurious to health,” but do you know that it also affects your appearance adversely too.

Smoking also leads to darkening your lips. Nicotine and tar present in the cigarette stay on your lips and turn the lips dark over some time.

So give up smoking and start drinking lots of water to flush the toxins from cigarettes out of your system.

2. Sun exposure

Unprotected sun exposure for a longer time will lead to Lip hyperpigmentation. It is a typically harmless condition caused by an excess of melanin.

An increase in melanin production leads to turning your lips dark. To avoid this, always apply a good lip balm on your lips, and make sure to apply sunscreen with good SPF before going outside.

3. Low-quality products

Ensure you do not go for cheap quality lip products. Such products contain ingredients like paraben, sulfate, phthalate, triclosan, and others, unsafe to consume.

Go for naturally made organic lip products (lipstick, lip balm, etc.) as they are safe.

4. Consumption of caffeine

Caffeine like tea and coffee is known to cause damage to the lips. Studies show that caffeine can not only stain your teeth but also make lips darker over time, depending on how much you consume.

Take only 1 0r 2 cups of coffee or tea, and always wash down your mouth and lips with a glass of water after your drink.

5. Dehydration

Dehydration makes your lips dry, chapped, and uncomfortable. Chapped lips can start to peel, and you may bite off little pieces of skin.

These injuries can lead to scars and dark spots on your lips. Drinking water is most often the best and cheapest way to stay hydrated and rehydrate. So drink at least eight glasses of water throughout the day.

6. Licking lips

When you lick your lips, saliva adds moisture to the surface of the lips, but only for a short moment.

As the saliva quickly evaporates and causes more dryness than before.

7. Vitamin deficiency

Chapped lips are a common symptom of Zinc and vitamin deficiencies, especially in vitamins B12.

So if your lips are cracked, include egg, capsicum, cabbage, peanuts, and lentils in your diet.

8. Too much Iron

An excessive intake of iron can lead to dark lips. A person may have too much iron in their body because they take too many iron supplements.

Or, a person may have a hereditary condition called hemochromatosis. It causes the body to absorb too much iron from food, leading to skin color changes.

If you have an excess of iron, then consult a doctor. Prescription medications may also help to remove the iron.

9. Hormonal imbalance

Dark or black spots on the lips can indicate a Hormone Imbalance. Levels of thyroid hormone that are either low or high can cause spots or hyperpigmentation to occur in the body.

Consult a doctor to receive a diagnosis and develop a treatment plan.

10.Wrong toothpaste

The skin of your lips is too sensitive. Sometimes your toothpaste also makes them darker because of the ingredient in your toothpaste that may not suit your lips.

So take a check on your toothpaste too.
