Holi is a famous ancient Hindu festival, also known as the “festival of colors” and “festival of love” as we celebrate the eternal and divine love of Radha and Krishna.
It’s not only India’s biggest festival but also the one most beloved worldwide.
Traditionally Holi was celebrated with natural colors and bucket of water or water guns filled with colored water.
The worst thing during Holi is the harmful ingredients used in the colors. Most of us believe that washing the colors with soap or face wash is enough to remove the toxic chemicals.
Unfortunately, this is not true, and it may cause rashes, breakouts, and other skin and hair problems that last longer than the fun of the festival of Holi.
Synthetic Holi colors contain cheap, toxic substances which cause discomfort to our skin, hair, eyes, and overall health.
So, along with the holi party fun, it’s also essential to care for your skin during the celebration.
So before you step out for holi this year, here are a few pre-Holi tips you have to follow.
Let’s prepare your skin & hair for holi
1. Apply toner
Toner tightens the pores and shrinks their overall size. It prevents the colors from penetrating deep inside the skin and saves skin from being more prone to acne and infections.
If you don’t have Toner, massage your face with ice cubes (Wrap in cotton) for about 10 minutes as the ice cube shrinks the pores.
2. Moisturize your skin
Apply a generous amount of moisturizer on your face and body. It will help to protect your skin from harsh colors.
It will also make it easy to get rid of the colors. You can also use coconut oil or olive oil as a moisturizer.
3. Sunscreen is a must
Not only for Holi, applying sunscreen on your face and skin is essential every day. It will protect your skin from harmful UV rays and also from colors.
Apply a generous amount of waterproof sunscreen 20 minutes before stepping out to play with colors.
4. Protect your lips
Avoid lipstick this holi; apply a thick coat of color lip balm or petroleum jelly on your lips as it provides extra moisture and will work for a more extended period.
Lip balm or petroleum jelly prevents your lips from harmful color and keeps them soft and supple.
5. Avoid contact lenses
The eyes are such a delicate area of your body and need extra care. Do not wear contact lenses this holi as lenses absorb colors.
And the color stick between your lenses and eyes, which then causes infection.
If you can’t stay without lenses, wear disposable daily lenses and remove them after playing Holi.
6. Cover your eyes with sunglasses
Don’t forget to wear sunglasses while playing Holi, as sunglasses are the best way to protect your eyes from color or gulal.
It also protects your eyes from harmful UV rays. The exciting thing is that sunglasses will make you look more stylish at this colorful festival.

To protect your hair and scalp from harmful colors, give an excellent massage to your hairs and scalp.
You can use coconut oil as it is beneficial for your hair and coat your hair & scalp very well. After oiling, wear a cap or bandana as looks fantastic and stylish and helps to protect your scalp.
Don’t go for loose hairs; make a braid or ponytail.
You can also follow the coconut oil order for the exposed areas such as hands, feet, and neck.
9. Protect your ears with vaseline
It becomes such a difficult task to remove the colors from the ears. So prepare your ears before playing Holi.
Apply petroleum jelly on your whole ears to restrict these chemicals from entering your ears.
10. Paint your nails
Apply at least two coats of dark nail paint on your nails. It will protect your nails from color stains.
Massage petroleum jelly around your nails to prevent the color from settling into your nail bed and will also help take off the Holi colors easily.
11. Stay hydrated
In the fun of Holi, we all forget to drink water, resulting in dehydration. As you know, the Holi festival comes at the start of the summer season, so it’s essential to drink enough water and stay hydrated.
